Enrolment OptionsApplying Nigeria's ISSB Jurisdictional Adoption in Practice
Nigeria's adoption of IFRS S1 and S2 is reshaping sustainability reporting requirements, requiring practical skills to navigate the FRC's roadmap and existing Nigerian frameworks.
Why ISSB Jurisdictional Adoption in Nigeria Matters
Nigeria announced its intention to adopt the ISSB Standards at COP27 in November 2022, becoming the first African country to commit to IFRS S1 and IFRS S2. Since then, the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) has led a structured, phased roadmap toward mandatory adoption.
Understanding Nigeria's adoption approach, and how it interacts with existing frameworks such as the NGX Sustainability Disclosure Guidelines, is essential for entities preparing for the 2028 mandatory deadline.
Key drivers include:
â—† Mandatory reporting for Significant Public Interest Entities from 1 January 2028
â—† A formal Adoption Readiness Test Assessment that entities must pass before adopting the standards
â—† The need to integrate ISSB reporting with existing NGX, CBN, and SEC requirements

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about ISSB jurisdictional adoption in Nigeria.
Is ISSB adoption mandatory in Nigeria?
Not yet. IFRS S1 and S2 are currently open for voluntary application. Mandatory reporting begins 1 January 2028 for Significant Public Interest Entities, and 1 January 2030 for SMEs and other entities.
What is the Adoption Readiness Test?
It's a formal diagnostic assessment, introduced under SRG 1, that entities must pass before adopting IFRS S1 and S2, covering governance, data, and materiality assessment capability.
Has Nigeria created its own version of the ISSB Standards?
No. Nigeria has taken a direct adoption approach, applying IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 exactly as issued by the ISSB, with no local amendments.
Is the content live or recorded?
The pathway is pre-recorded and available on demand, so you can complete it at your own pace.
Do existing Nigerian frameworks still apply alongside the ISSB Standards?
Yes. Frameworks such as the NGX Sustainability Disclosure Guidelines, CBN Sustainable Banking Principles, and SEC Sustainable Finance Principles continue to apply alongside IFRS S1 and S2.
